ID Check to Clarify a Problem 1.1
The way to clarify a problem you maybe having with a student is to answer some tough questions honestly. Where does this problem get its fuel? Who is responsible for its outcome? When does the situation need to be resolved? An ID check to verify what you’re thinking saves valuable time and energy. Both resources are important, I don’t waste mine or theirs.
Get Clear on What Actions to Take 1.2
Developing a clear action plan that produces lasting results can be easier said than done. One thing I check-in at the door daily is a positive attitude. I expect to produce win-win situations. A winning attitude is a key strategy for developing action that achieves a purpose driven classroom. Be sensitive of the student’s belief systems and how you respond to their behaviors. Students are watching and modeling your actions. Give your students an added bonus of learning to play with more confidence in their pursuit of happiness.
Monitor Your Results 1.3
Do you have more than enough success in your classroom? None of us should have enough confidence to say that. Keep an eye on your results. There’s always an available student we haven’t been able to reach. After many years of monitoring other teacher’s outcomes, and mine, one principle consistently runs parallel with positive results inside and out of the classroom. Gently spoken confident words have power. I start each day and hour with praises like: well done, excellent, the best, beautiful and even that’s phat on occasion. Then my favorite empowering statements are: “Welcome to success; great things await you; be undeniable; and walk in your royal inheritance.” Now what student wouldn’t behave different after repeatedly hearing genuine words like these?
